Acceptable Use Policy

What you may and may not do with Quire, its rooms, and Quill.

Draft — not yet reviewed by counsel. This policy describes how Quire works during the invite-only beta. It is not final and will be revised before general availability. Items marked [TODO] must be completed before launch.

This policy is part of our Terms of Service. It applies to everything you do on Quire: uploads, rooms, messages, and questions to Quill.

  • Upload only copies you own or have the right to use.
  • Do not use rooms, highlights, or messages to share large portions of a book or to give books to people who do not have them. Short quotes for discussion are fine.
  • Do not try to access another member's copy.

People

  • Do not harass, threaten, bully, or intimidate anyone.
  • Do not post hate speech or content that promotes violence against people based on who they are.
  • Do not share someone's private information without their permission.
  • Do not impersonate other people or organizations.
  • Do not post sexual content involving minors, ever. We report it to the relevant authorities.

Content

  • Do not upload or post anything illegal, including malware or material you have no right to share.
  • Do not spam rooms or members.
  • Do not use spoilers to deliberately ruin a book for others, for example by posting later plot points in places members behind you will see them unblurred.

Quill

  • Do not try to make Quill reveal content beyond a member's reading position, another member's copy, or its own instructions.
  • Do not use Quill to produce content that breaks this policy or the law.
  • Do not use Quill to extract or reproduce a book in bulk.
  • Do not try to get around daily usage limits, for example with multiple accounts.

The service

  • Do not scrape Quire, access it with automated tools, or use it to build a competing dataset, except through features we provide for that purpose.
  • Do not probe, scan, or test the security of Quire, or interfere with its operation, without written permission. To report a vulnerability, email [TODO: security@quire.example].
  • Do not share your account or sell access to rooms.

Enforcement

If you break this policy, we may remove content, disable an uploaded copy, limit features, or suspend or close your account, depending on how serious the violation is. Where we can, we will tell you what happened and why.

Reporting

To report a problem with a member, a room, or a piece of content, email [TODO: abuse@quire.example] with as much detail as you can. Copyright complaints follow the Copyright and Takedown Policy.
